Governance and supervision

Atalenta's legal form is a foundation with a two-headed Board of Directors (BoD), a Supervisory Board (SB), a Joint Participation Council (GMR) and Works Council (OR) at foundation level and Participation Councils (MR) and Parent Committees at site level.

The Code of Good Governance emphasises the mandatory separation of the functions of management and internal supervision within primary education organisations. At Atalenta has an organic separation (two-tier). The Executive Board is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Atalenta Foundation and is accountable for this to the Supervisory Board.

Atalenta's organisational structure can be described as a decentralised (collegiate) regional management model. The Executive Board heads the organisation. The childcare and education locations are divided over five regions that are managed by one or two regional directors and a childcare manager.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board ensures that the objectives that can legally and socially be expected of Atalenta are achieved and that the general course of affairs takes place in the desired direction and in a way that can be accounted for. The composition is such that the members can operate independently and critically with respect to each other and the Executive Board. Various areas of expertise are represented within the Supervisory Board, including financial, legal, business, educational and childcare expertise. The Supervisory Board functions as the employer of the Executive Board and also appoints an independent external auditor for this purpose. Within the framework of horizontal accountability, the RvT also has at least two consultation moments a year with the Joint Participation Council (GMR).

Atalenta's internal supervision is guided by the social value of future-proof child development in a challenging learning environment, in such a way that every child can develop optimally. Supervision and accountability are therefore aimed both at complying with the legal and financial frameworks and at Atalenta's actual social mission, which is becoming ever broader through the connections with childcare and care, among others.
